The sun embraces me as I float in
The clear waters of Flamenco Bay Beach in
Culebra. This island, reached by a puddle
jumper from North Eastern Puerto Rico,
was a surprisingly delightful paradise!
The slowly undulating warm water enveloped me
as I peacefully floated in the amazingly clear waters
which slowly drifted to the pure white sugar like sand,
making the slightest sound. My husband joined
me in the welcome warm water up to his chest.
We could see our legs and arms plainly in this clear
bay water and were amazed to find no seaweed,
shells or rocks on the sandy floor. This added to
the peaceful feeling which filled us.
We saw snorkelers heading out to deeper waters,
but we hadn’t snorkeled yet, and we were satisfied
enjoying the warm, boyant water of the bay.
As we reclined in our lounge chairs,
our books, under our umbrella,
sat unread on our laps, as we were
mesmerized by the beautiful blues of
the sky against the clear glass water,
and the sparkling sand.
Everything was sun drenched and we
enjoyed every minute.
We were the only English speaking people
on the beach. When we chose our
lunch items by guessing, at the
wooden booths In the grove,
we were lucky to have our
delicious lunches back
on the beach under our umbrella.
We would have liked to stay longer,
but we got into our waiting puddle jumper,
which only seated ten people, and headed
back to our resort. We brought our good memories
with us, feeling relaxed and peaceful,
hoping we could return here sometime!
On the way back on our jet, I sat next to
afriendly man who told me that Culebra
means “Island of the Snakes.”

How wonderful! Thank you for sharing. Love, Virg
